Bathed in unique beauty, Martha's Vineyard attracts day-trippers, celebrity home owners, and urbanites seeking a restful getaway; its year-round residents include many artists, musicians and back-to-nature types.
For more than a century, prominent and wealthy Blacks from New York and Boston have transformed this once segregated town in Martha’s Vineyard into what is known today as the “Black Hamptons” ...a little bougie, a lot quaint.
Built by Black servants, Oak Bluffs is now a place to see and be seen, as the black elite, professionals and middle class come to enjoy the slower paced island life in a town that’s delightfully stuck in time. But ...they do know how to turn up!
The Island remains untouched by the kind of rampant commercialism found on the mainland – there's not a single chain restaurant or cookie-cutter motel in sight. Instead you'll find quaint inns, chef-driven restaurants and a bounty of green farms and grand beaches.
And there's something for every mood here – fine dining in gentrified Edgartown one day and savoring comfort food at Sarah Brown's and standing in line at Back Door Donuts in Oak Bluffs the next.
Be prepared to be astonished as it is not uncommon to run into President Obama on “the island.” In 2018, some of our own members ran into "Prez" coming off Farm Neck Golf Course where he is known to frequent!
Grab your girls and go!
The Pequot Hotel in Oak Bluffs
From the decorative lattice that adorns its porches to the cozy feel of classic cottage décor, The Pequot Hotel exudes the warmth and charm that is Martha’s Vineyard tradition.
The Pequot Hotel is wonderfully situated one block from the iconic Inkwell Beach and a quick stroll through the colorful neighborhood to the bustle of town on Circuit Avenue, the "Main Street" of Oak Bluffs.
Daily breakfast is included ...start your Sunday morning with a complimentary mimosa. Grab a fresh baked chocolate chip cookie in the afternoons and wash it down with a glass of fresh lemonade.
Join in on the Friday porch party, snag a beach chair, a towel and umbrella and head to the beach or order a bike to cycle through the island's welcoming streets.
But what you will probably enjoy the most is simply relaxing in one of the white rocking chairs on the charming flower trimmed veranda and letting all your worries and stress just float away.
