ATHENS
It is well-known from mythology that Athens was named after the Goddess of Wisdom, Athena, following a battle with the God of the Sea, Poseidon.
The first King of Greece, Kexropas, who was half man and half snake, had to decide who would serve as the protector of the city. It was agreed that the two Gods, Poseidon and Athena, would each provide Kexropa with a present. The one with the best present would become the protector of the city.

Athena and Poseidon made their appearance before Kexropas. Poseidon started first by hitting his trident on the ground and immediately a rivulet appeared with crystal clear water.
​
Athena then hit her spear on the ground and a small olive tree appeared. Kexropas was impressed by Athena’s present and appointed her to become the protector of the city.
​
So …this is how Athens got its name.
SANTORINI
​The island of Santorini is a perfect crescent shape and is the result of a cataclysmic volcano which occurred over 3,600 years ago.
Before the eruption, Santorini was a much bigger circular volcanic island. The massive eruption literally blew out the middle of the island.
The rush of water to fill the void caused a huge tsunami throughout the region that went as far as Crete.
The volcano, which is still active, erupted again in 197 BC and again in 1707 AD and created two more islands which may be seen from the Caldera (a large depression formed when a volcano erupts)
Some say Santorini was the original home of the lost city of Atlantis, which long ago disappeared into the ocean's depths.

Whether or not Santorini was once part of Atlantis, it is a magical place worthy of the myths conjured up about its past.

Best of Santorini Private Half Day Tour (Included)
The first stop on our private tour is to take in views of the Santorini Caldera. We continue through scenic countryside to the village of Oia, the most photographed location in Santorini. You’ll also visit the village of Imerovigli which is situated on a higher cliff with an incredible view.
Make a short stop in Firostefani to see the famous Blue Dome Church, the subject of so many Santorini postcards. Continue to the peak of Prophet Ilias, the island’s highest mountain, standing 2,000 feet above sea level.
Next on the itinerary is a visit to the village of Megalochori or Pyrgos. Take a guided walk along narrow paths, so you can see how the locals live. You can then take an optional stop at Akrotiri Archaeological Site if you want to explore the excavations: the site of a prehistoric Bronze Age city that was frozen in time by ash from the Minoan volcanic eruption.
Take time to admire the Red and Black beaches. Enjoy an optional winery visit to Estate Argyros or Venetsanos Winery where you can taste local wine and enjoy caldera with a view from the top of the winery. (Lunch and beverages not included)
